”The exhibition Double Lives focuses on visual artists who wrote or produced music, who performed music in public, or who were or are members of artists’ bands. The exhibition really “exhibits” music, with large projections of videos and photographs of concert and studio performances that give visitors a sense of being there “live,” while also illustrating the significance of different kinds of performance situation.”

”The Finnish photographer Elina Brotherus deals with her own biography,
the landscape genre, and art history in her photographs and films. long with a selection of Brotherus’s recent works, the exhibition features a work group commissioned by the Kunsthaus Wien and created by Brotherus in January 2018 in Vienna. In it, Brotherus deals with the works of VALIE EXPORT, Erwin Wurm, and other Austrian artists, using them as references for new photographic and filmic works.”

What happens when we spend some time with strangers and naked women in a room?

Freelance choreographer and dancer from Vienna (she also holds a Ph.D. in philosophy of the University of Vienna), Christine Gaigg, opened her ”room” in the Hofstallung MQ. Before entering, we got a short introduction, all mobile phones were collected. Then there was a short relaxation/ meditation exercise before all of us were individually led into “Christine’s room”. The rules was: ”Everything is possible, nothing is neccesary.”

Research topic:

”Post Nora (performance) art_is (t)?”

Flajer final

designed by: Dragan Vojvodic

  • Do specific female characteristics exist in art?
  • Are femininity constructed as common ideology?
  • Is there any connection between art and gender identity? Is there any typical female style?
  • Is there any female canon? Feminist canon? Should art created by women be called feminist art?
  • Is feminism something everyone should be or it is still taboo?
  • Are woman very different from one another? Do they really had anything in common?
  • What does it mean to be female artist, being a woman in art?
  • Does being a female artist mean being in exile (in literal and allegorical meanings)? And what about ”male art”?

A research topic&title was inspired by Post Nora exhibition with female artists from Norway and China at Today Art Museum, Bejing in 2006.

The title of the project refers to the – Henrik Ibsen’s Nora, metaphor of individual women freedom. This project also examines the idea of being an exile, because of dedication to the art or gender identity.

Art Statement:

I am not scholar, nor curator, art historian. I am contemporary writer and just want to be creative. Product of  my research will be art book. In my previous books I was inspired by image studies, different cultures. This research is type of travel also.

About the project

The research project ”Post Nora” performance art (is_t)? focuses on the contemporary performance female art (ist)s. But, art is difficult to define, and some people go so far as to say it cannot be defined.

I decided to go beyond definition.

I am interested in the dictate of beauty, the Myth of Elisabeth of Bavaria, Sisi;  the psychoanalytic process as performance art and Sigmund Freud’s Approach; how women artists in the 1970s first began to collectively redefine their own image of woman; ImPulsTanz Festival performances in MUMOK.

There are some groups whose members reject the feminist label. There are women who think of themselves as universal frame of genderness, clichés and stereotypical images of women. But, on the other hand, male artists have a stronger representation in galleries, they are offered more opportunities to exhibit in institutions?

I would like to put many voices in conversation. I created Questionnaire to be filled in by the artists, scholars, curators, art lovers, anyone whom it may concern.
